Native son Thomas Wolfe hated Asheville, N.C., and so did I at first - when I drove in from the airport expecting a lazy country town and got lost in a laughable maze of bypass roads. I also wasn't thrilled when I finally reached my $185-a-night ``standard' room at the city's grand Blue Ridge Mountain resort and was greeted by a decidedly substandard view.Wolfe got his revenge on his hometown by writing the epic ``roman a clef' ``Look Homeward, Angel' - sometimes referred to as ``Look Inward, Asheville' and conspicuously absent from the local library until almost 10 years after his death.
