Did You Know?

1986: Triad Health Project is founded by a group of 14 volunteers.

1987: THP receives hospital referrals from the Moses Cone Infectious Disease clinic. A single employee begins seeing new clients at a rate of about one per month.

1988: AIDS cases reach 106,994 in the United States. THP serves 24 clients on a $20,000 budget.

1989: THP’s first executive director, David Clough, dies from AIDS-related complications. THP’s caseload grows to 40 clients, and its budget increases to $85,000.

1990: Dining for Friends begins. Twenty parties took place that year, raising about $10,000.

1991: THP becomes a member agency of United Way of Greater Greensboro and opens an office in High Point. The group receives a “National Points of Light” award from the Bush administration.

1992: Winter Walk for AIDS begins.

1996: The number of AIDS cases reaches 548,102 in the United States. Advances in HIV drug combination treatments begin to show promise in keeping patients healthy. Financial difficulties result in massive staff cuts at THP. Loan guarantees signed by supporters help the organization recover.

1997: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports a drop in AIDS deaths resulting from powerful drug combination therapies.

1999: THP receives public funding to begin case management outreach in the Guilford County jails.

2001-03: THP client load begins to average between 500 and 600 individuals each year.

2003: THP moves to current offices on Summit Avenue.
