Metal sculptor Jim Gallucci’s first Golden Oak Leaf Arch. Over three weeks, Gallucci, Josie Vogler and other staff cut, bent and welded aluminum into a 600-pound piece, 10½ feet tall, to span a 12-foot walkway. Because of freight costs, Gallucci decided to build another lighter version.

Gallucci inspects welds on the top section of his second sculpture, which he made to lessen the overall weight of the piece. When the one-way cost of shipping it to Venice was estimated at $26,000, Gallucci opted to make a slightly smaller one to reduce shipping expenses.

Metal sculptor Jim Gallucci’s first Golden Oak Leaf Arch. Over three weeks, Gallucci, Josie Vogler and other staff cut, bent and welded aluminum into a 600-pound piece, 10½ feet tall, to span a 12-foot walkway. Because of freight costs, Gallucci decided to build another lighter version.

Gallucci inspects welds on the top section of his second sculpture, which he made to lessen the overall weight of the piece. When the one-way cost of shipping it to Venice was estimated at $26,000, Gallucci opted to make a slightly smaller one to reduce shipping expenses.
