Bicycle fatalities since 2009

Oct. 24, 2009: David Sherman killed riding his bicycle on North Church Street in Greensboro. Rear-ended by an SUV that fled the scene.

July 21, 2011: Marissa Shelton, 8, died after being struck while riding her bicycle across U.S. 29.

July 31, 2011: Tony L. Turner, 43, died after being hit from behind while riding on Alamance Street in Gibsonville.

April 13, 2012: Kathy Shubert, 38, died after being struck by an SUV on Brookbank Road in Summerfield.

Sept. 24, 2013: Remington Cox, 20, died after swerving in front of a tanker truck on N.C. 68 near Leabourne Road and was struck.

Feb. 2, 2014: Todd Martinez, 49, died after a pickup struck him near Summerfield and didn’t stop.

Services

Visitation for Todd Martinez will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cumby’s Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Drive, High Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson St., in High Point.
