North Carolina typically plans for 23 weeks of "active legislating" during “long sessions,” which are held in odd-numbered years and eight weeks in “short” sessions, which come in even-numbered years.

2009: Jan. 28 to Aug. 11

2011: Jan. 26 to June 18

2012: May 16 to July 3

2013: Jan. 9 (For a one-day organizational session then adjourned. Convened again on Jan. 30.) Adjourned July 26.

2014: May 14 to Aug. 20

2015: Convened Jan. 14 (For a one-day organizational session then adjourned. Convened again on Jan. 28.) Adjournment: Planned for Tuesday, Sept. 29.
