GREENSBORO — The International Civil Rights Center & Museum is getting 18 more months to repay taxpayers about $800,000 from a “forgivable” loan.

News & Notes from Tuesday's Greensboro City Council meeting:
- Approved a $1.9 million contract with Taser International for body cameras for the Greensboro Police Department. The vote came after 11 members of the public asked the council not to spend taxpayer money on cameras that take footage the public can’t see. A new state law lets a person who appears in such footage ask a law enforcement agency to view the recording. But the agency can say no, citing concerns about safety, reputation or an ongoing investigation. If that happens, then a judge would decide whether the person can watch. The council says it is working with the bill’s sponsor, Rep. John Faircloth (R-Guilford) on a less restrictive bill.
- Approved a rezoning that could bring a gas station to the Trinity Lakes neighborhood. Residents had urged the council to vote against the rezoning, saying the gas station would bring unnecessary traffic and environmental issues to the area.
- Awarded UnitedHealthcare a one-year contract to manage the city’s health care services to its employees. Some council members said City Manager Jim Westmoreland changed the criteria of the bid process to favor the Greensboro-based UnitedHealthcare over Cigna. The city will work with UHC for a year while it reconsiders how it will send bids. For more than 90 minutes, the two companies lobbied the council to give them their business while council members bickered about the process.
