For half of his four years of life, Trent Brown has lived with stacks of drinking water in his family’s Belmont home when “do not drink” recommendations were issued after hexavalent chromium pollution was discovered in his family’s well water.

Neighbors of Duke Energy’s Allen Steam Station protest the utility’s plan to cap some coal ash basins. After the discovery

of higher levels of hexavalent chromium in their well water, residents want Duke Energy to excavate and safely bury the waste.

Bill Fuqua, who lives near Duke Energy’s Allen plant in Belmont, says his life changed after he was advised not to drink his well water because it contained the pollutant hexavalent chromium. Part of Duke’s offer includes money for people who must connect to, and now pay for, public water.

Neighbors of Duke Energy’s Allen Steam Station protest the utility’s plan to cap some coal ash basins. After the discovery

of higher levels of hexavalent chromium in their well water, residents want Duke Energy to excavate and safely bury the waste.

Bill Fuqua, who lives near Duke Energy’s Allen plant in Belmont, says his life changed after he was advised not to drink his well water because it contained the pollutant hexavalent chromium. Part of Duke’s offer includes money for people who must connect to, and now pay for, public water.
