Alexis Dermatas had her nose bitten off and face ripped apart by the family dog last January. She has had seven surgeries so far to reconstruct her face. The smaller photo shows her after one of those.

Alexis Dermatas’ sister, Anna Dermatas (right), has been a constant companion and source of strength for Alexis during her ordeal. But Alexis has been a source of inspiration for Anna. “More than that, she’s my hero,” Anna said. “I see a fighter. I have seen that her whole life.”

Alexis Dermatas had her nose bitten off and face ripped apart by the family dog last January. She has had seven surgeries so far to reconstruct her face. The smaller photo shows her after one of those.

Alexis Dermatas’ sister, Anna Dermatas (right), has been a constant companion and source of strength for Alexis during her ordeal. But Alexis has been a source of inspiration for Anna. “More than that, she’s my hero,” Anna said. “I see a fighter. I have seen that her whole life.”
