UK based artist Dan Kitchener paints a large mural on the Red Ci

Dan Kitchener, who hopes to complete his project on Monday, is using 1,060 cans of spray paint and a hydraulic lift. He’s painted streetscapes around the world.

Kitchener, who goes by DANK, is transforming the theater’s south-facing red wall into a futuristic Tokyo.

Kitchener does a test spray before coloring a yellow section of the mural. “The core message of this is that it’s public,” says developer Marty Kotis, who organized the project. “It’s something people can see rather than being tucked away in a museum.”

Wanted: Models for art project

Developer Marty Kotis wants to take a photo Monday night of artist Dan Kitchener's mural at RED Cinemas, 1305 Battleground Ave.

In the rain.

And he needs your help.

Kotis wants to pose 50 people in front of the futuristic, "Blade Runner" inspired painting Kitchener has spent the last 10 days creating.

Each model will hold a clear umbrella that has been lit up with tiny "fairy lights." The rain, the lights and the umbrellas will blend with the rain-soaked cityscape created by Kitchener, who goes by DANK.

From a distance, Kotis hopes the people will look like they're walking among DANK's images in his photo.

Kotis has the clear umbrellas and lights. But he needs volunteers.

The casting line will form around 7:30 p.m. Models need to dress appropriately - no cargo shorts or T-shirts, Kotis said.

Think leather jackets or neon-colored dresses.

People who don't get picked are welcome to stay and watch, he said. But they'll need their own umbrellas. The forecast is calling for rain, after all.
