Getting help
Is your street state-maintained? Look at the nearest stop sign. If the street is maintained by the N.C. Department of Transportation, there will be a white, rectangular plate displaying four numbers on the post just under the sign.
If your street isn’t on DOT’s list: You can often find out who is responsible for its upkeep by looking on your deed. Many deeds drawn after the mid-1980s will specify, according to state DOT officials. It’s usually the developer, homeowners’ association or individual home owners.
