1969: Graduated from Douglass College, the women’s division of Rutgers University, with a political science degree.

1970: Received master’s degree in political science from Rutgers University.

1974: Received doctorate in political science from The Ohio State University.

1978-1985: Held several positions in the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense.

1986-1992: Served on faculty at Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and U.S. Military Academy.

1993: Hired to lead the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech; also was a professor of international affairs.

2001: Named dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of political science at N.C. State.

2006: Named senior vice president and provost at University of Oregon.

2008: Appointed UNCG’s 10th chancellor.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

On Brady's retirement:

“I shall be forever grateful for the opportunity to make a difference for our students and the people of North Carolina, and I look forward to returning to the classroom, where I began my academic career more than 40 years ago.” — Brady, in her statement to the UNCG community.

“(Brady) has shepherded the institution through some very tough economic circumstances and has done so quite effectively, despite having to make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions.” — Tom Ross, president, UNC System.

“There will be dancing in the street at UNCG.” — Keith Cushman, English professor emeritus.

“Obviously with everything going on, she thought it best to go ahead and announce (her retirement). But this is not something that popped up yesterday.” — Susan Safran, chairwoman of UNCG’s Board of Trustees.

On the recent firings and arrests of university relations employees Lyda Carpen, Chris English and David Wilson:

“In my 43 years at UNCG, including 10 as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, I have never witnessed such an outrageous and insupportable abuse of authority.” — Walter Beale, English professor, earlier this month.

“Had this latest fiasco been handled right, no one should have even been fired, much less arrested. But if anyone should be hauled away in cuffs, it is Dr. Brady herself." — Richard Levy, UNCG supporter, last week.

“ ... our view that the criminal charges brought against our colleagues are unjust and destructive is widely shared throughout UNCG and greater Greensboro community.” — Petition asking Guilford County District Attorney Doug Henderson to drop criminal charges, signed by faculty members.
