Patricia Wakefield
May 14, 1937 - October 23, 2026
Patricia Grubb Wakefield, 89, died on October 23, at Spring Arbor Senior Living.
Born on May 14.1937, in Salisbury. N.C. the daughter of Morah Fultz Grubb and Coleman Wilson Grubb. Sr., she attended school in Salisbury. N.C. and then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Pat taught elementary education in the Guilford County Schools for many years until her retirement.
Pat was devoted to animals, particularly dogs. And owned several champions. She taught dog obedience classes for several years as a member of the Carolina Kennel Club.
Pat was married to George Hayes Wakefield for 53 years until his death in 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Coleman
Wilson Grubb.Jr. and his wife, Jean Walser Grubb. She was also preceded in death by niece, Bonnie Grubb Bell.
Survivors include sister-in-law, Anne Wakefield Callicott; nieces, Tracey Grubb Barrier and husband, Dennis of Granite Quarry, Allison Callicott Ortlip and husband, Michael of Charlote, Karen Eckelmann Proffitt and husband, Alan of Raleigh, and Lynn Callicott Baranski and husband, Marc of Princeton, N.J.; nephews, David L. Grubb and wife, Rita of Garner, Timothy A. Grubb and wife, Denise of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Wayne A. Eckelmann and wife, Teresa of Mt. Holly Springs, Pa.
Graveside services will be held at Guilford Memorial Park at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026.
Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, 1118 N. Elm St. Greensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wakefield was one of my favorite teachers at Vandalia. She would play kickball or dodge ball with us at recess. Loved seeing her pull into the school parking lot in her little brown MG. She always put us first in the school day.

She was my favorite teacher at Vandalia Elementary. I got to ride in her sports car when she took me to the spelling bee. She was a special lady!!
