CHARLOTTE TERRY LEE REITZEL DIED AT HOME FEBRUARY 11, 2015. He was born on April 1, 1956 in Greensboro. Terry grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Grimsley High School in 1974 in spite of a record number of absences and tardies. He was a Gold Key recipient and Governor's School attendee. After graduation, he attended a semester at East Carolina University and then moved to New York City to pursue an interest in art. Upon returning to Greensboro, Terry spent time bartending while honing his true talent as an artist. Terry married Sandy Lomax in 1983. They moved to Charlotte and started a family. While living in the Queen City, he successfully became the area's most sought-after artist. He visited China twice to teach young students how to paint. Terry's murals and paintings hang not only in North Carolina but also over many parts of the country. He was a self-taught artist of rare and extraordinary talent, yet he was a humble genius. Terry loved his family and was ecstatic over his precious daughters and granddaughters. He had a great respect for nature and a true love of fishing, great knowledge of art and books, an affinity for Van Morrison, just to scratch the surface. He was of the Christian faith and baptized as a young man. His great wit, big smile, and generosity never failed him, as he seemed to touch anyone he came into contact with. He truly cared for all and all alike. Terry's wisdom allowed him great conversation with people of every demographic. He was ridiculously generous with his time and money, always helping someone in need. Terry's love of animals, particularly dogs, was unwavering. If a man's success is judged by his intellect, talent, humor, and love of others, Terry was hugely successful. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Maxton Reitzel, brothers Maxton Mark Reitzel and Gary Lynn Reitzel. He is survived by his mother, Edith Copelia Reitzel, brother, Neil Reitzel, daughters Hannah Lynn Reitzel Rivera (Alex), Lydia Jane Reitzel, Adele Louise Reitzel, grandchildren Gabriella Noel Rodriguez, Violet Inez Rivera, nieces Rose Leah and Lilly Blair Reitzel of Massachusetts, and his dogs Henny and Ivan. In lieu of flowers, it's asked that you make a donation or do a good deed for any human or animal in need, not in Terry's name, but quietly in his honor.

In the 6th grade Terry's art genius was obvious. Even then he was the happy generous character described here, and in our circle of friends he was the funniest and most creative. Every time I travel on Gracewood Dr. I recall one particular fond memory of Terry which I can't share but he will always live in my heart and in my head. Peace bro.

Hi Copelia, I'm sorry to read about your son's death. I offer my condolences. You were always one of my favorite people to work with at Southern Bell. I moved back to FL after my husband passed 3 years ago.

I am sure your heart is breaking, and holding thoughts for you at this time of loss..The talents of Terry will live on, as so many enjoy his beautiful art! Dear Copelia, I will always think of the Reitzel family as part of my family, having spent many summer vacations together at Long beach ...the Reitzel, Pike, Brown and Andrews families had so many children collectively...we could roam free, and DID...with lots of good memories, and lots of black and white photos! I send hugs to you at this time. Knowing that Terry has left behind lovely daughters and grand children to enjoy, I am sure the Love will Lift you! Blessings of Light for the request that Terry made...and I am doing this!! Love you, Carolyn Andrews-Allred
