MLB scouts clamoring to get a look at Josh Hammond ahead of the MLB Draft

Wesleyan Christian’s Josh Hammond is a hot commodity among Major League Baseball scouts. As a pitcher, his fastball reaches 99 miles per hour. At the plate, Hammond is batting .414 with 10 home runs and 51 RBI this season.

Wesleyan

Hammond has signed to play baseball at Wake Forest, but he could opt to play professionally if he’s drafted. Hammond is projected to be selected early in the first round.

Hammond is attracting dozens of MLB scouts to his games, forcing Wesleyan coach Mo Blakeney to serve as a secretary for the scouts clamoring to see him.

Hammond previously starred at Westchester Country Day, where he was a high school varsity player from seventh grade to his sophomore year. He led the Wildcats to NCISAA 2A state runner-ups in 2022 and 2023. In his sophomore season, he batted .378 with seven home runs while having an 8-0 record with an 0.89 ERA.
