BASKETBALL VS. FOOTBALL
Tre' Turner, a rising junior at Northwest Guilford, has scholarship offers in basketball and football. Here are the schools that have offered and some analysis of his skills in both sports:
BASKETBALL
Lee Reavis, Northwest Guilford coach: "He can handle the ball, he can shoot the ball and he rebounds extremely well for his position. ... Defensively, he’ll step in and take charges. He gets deflections and is a good communicator. It’s a little bit of everything. But it all goes back to he can shoot the ball."
Rick Lewis, founder and managing editor of Phenom Hoop Report: "We’ve always been impressed with Tre’s athleticism, skillset, maturity and poise. ... That being said, he may be somewhat undervalued and underappreciated in terms of his basketball ability. ... Time after time, Tre' will do all the little things that are necessary to help his team win. He’s a low-risk, high-return player who has plenty of upside and potential on the basketball court."
FOOTBALL
Jared Rolfes, Northwest Guilford coach: "The one thing I tell college coaches and the one thing they tell me as an observation off film is he has the best reaction after the catch of all the kids I’ve ever coached. ... It’s a hand move with a stiff-arm and he jumps over the guy and makes him miss. I was talking with a (college) coach and he said, ‘He doesn’t even know what he’s doing, but he does it every time,’ and he’s right. ... When you’re 6-4 and you can do that, it’s a huge trait to have from a next-level standpoint — college and beyond.”
Michael Clark, regional/national recruiting analyst for Scout: "He’s nowhere near a finished product, but he still has two years left to refine his game, work on the fundamentals and, most importantly, just play. That’s the most important thing for a guy like him, who has very little experience, just continue to play, get a lot of reps, continue to develop his game and I think with all of the natural ability he has everything else is going to take care of itself."
