GREENSBORO — The Page Pirates will once again be practicing on Thanksgiving after earning a spot in the NCHSAA Class 4-AA West semifinals Friday night. The fourth-seeded Pirates bludgeoned No. 5 Charlotte Providence 41-16 on a cold night at Marion Kirby stadium, earning a visit to top-seeded Charlotte Mallard Creek next week.

Why the Pirates won: Naseem Alston finished with more than 200 yards receiving and two touchdowns, and quarterback Javondre Paige rushed for more than 100 yards and a touchdown (in the first half, no less). In other words, Page did pretty much whatever it wanted, setting the tone early.
Why the Panthers lost: Providence had its chances, but time after time it either turned over the ball or saw a drive end in the shadow of the end zone. The Panthers added two late touchdowns, but by then the game had been over for an hour.
Stars: Page — WR Naseem Alston 7 catches, 203 yards, 2 TDs; QB Javondre Paige 9 rushes, 106 yards, TD, 12-of-20 passing, 261 yards, 2 TDs. Providence — WR Caleb Ogunmola 5 catches, 110 yards; QB Jack Cherry 20-of-34 passing, 266 yards, TD.
The big plays: Page linebacker Alan Tisdale picked off a Jack Cherry pass in the end zone, stifling what had been an 80-yard drive late in the second quarter. The Pirates and Paige then ran a masterful two-minute drill, culminating in a thrilling 36-yard touchdown run by the Pirates’ sophomore quarterback.
