HSXtra: Catching up with softball
TEAMS TO WATCH
Southeast Guilford: The standard-bearers of the Metro 4-A Conference are led by Elon-bound P Sydney Ingle and UNC-Wilmington commit and HSXtra All-Area IF Gabriella Hessenthaler. The Falcons are poised for a deep run in the NCHSAA Class 4-A playoffs.
Northwest Guilford: The Vikings are led by Heather Johnson, their third head coach in three years, but always have plenty of talent. Northwest boasts a lineup that can produce hits from the top to the bottom of the batting order.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
SS Allyson Frantz, junior Southeast Guilford: One area coach says, “There is no one faster, glove to release, in the state. She does a terrific job for (the Falcons). The junior will help Gabriella Hessenthaler anchor the infield for Southeast.
IF Grace Wesoly, senior, Northern Guilford: The Queens commit hit .342 and compiled a .402 OBP as a junior. She should help the Nighthawks compete for another Mid-State 3-A Conference crown.
P Kassie Simmons, sophomore, Eastern Guilford: Known for hitting spots, the youngster will be counted upon to locate her arsenal of pitches to help Eastern Guilford continue its banner school year in athletics.
1B Kayla Brewer, senior, Wesleyan: A .500 hitter, Brewer led the Trojans with eight home runs, 11 doubles and 38 RBIs last season while earning All-PACIS and NCISAA Class 3-A all-state honors.
GAMES TO WATCH
Northern Guilford at Northwest Guilford, Wednesday: Despite an 18-6 Vikings win at Northern earlier this season, it’s always a heated matchup when these two county rivals meet.
Southeast Guilford at Page, April 4: The Pirates are still seeking that signature win in the Metro 4-A Conference. Could this be it?
**Eastern Guilford at Southeast Guilford, April 5:**The day after an important conference rematch, the Falcons step out of the Metro 4-A for what could be a terrific pitching matchup if Sydney Ingle is in the circle for Southeast Kassie Simmons is throwing for Eastern.
